Cloth Buying Overview
I ordered Chinese pre-fold cloth diapers & ProRaps Classics for my baby. I chose to use pre-fold diapers because they cost the least AND they had the best reviews. I choose ProRaps because they were rated highly & I purchased 2nds at ½ the regular price. The reviews that mentioned 2nds for ProRaps said they were just as good as the regular ProRaps, and the difference could not be seen. I found the “flaw” in 2 of the wraps because it had masking tape by it. The “flaws” were a small pin sized black marks. All are working great and I have not had any blowouts or wicking at the seams.
I purchased my diapers from http://www.NaturalBabies.com and the wraps directly from ProServices (http://www.prodiaper.net) (800) 397-8594. Read more about these companies. I also purchased Flushable-Biodegradable Diaper Liners from Babies R US.
After reading many sites, I have come to the conclusion that http://www.Diaperpin.com is the best site for diaper related information. Companies selling products subscribe to “advertise” on the site and people have given their own reviews of the companies and the various products. This is also a great resource site to find out more about cloth diapering. Make sure you read their FAQ if you are unsure about cloth diapering.
I started using cloth on DD’s 100th day. I didn’t use cloth for the first few months because we had gifts given and found disposables for 1/2 off. I also didn’t know anyone who used cloth, so I needed time to research how to use & purchase cloth. I had a great experience with my cloth purchase from http://www.NaturalBabies.com and highly recommend them. The wraps were ordered by phone directly from ProServices (800) 397-8594.
I purchased bleached diapers. If I were to do it again, I’d purchase unbleached. My reasoning is that unbleached diapers do not show stains as easily. I do not like stains in my diapers and end up soaking them for many hours or sun bleaching to rid them of stains.
DD is now 15 months and I have still not made a dent in the diaper liners. This is because she only has a BM once every few days and I usually put her on the toilet for her BMs. However, for someone who doesn’t know when their child is going to have a BM, Liners would be helpful. Once DD started soldis her BMs also became more sold and were easier to plop into the toilet making clean up even easier.
I purchased only 24 diapers for months 9-24 (this is reflected in my chart.) I found the diapers are much larger so I can only fit about 2 -3 days worth of diapers in the diaper pail before I must do laundry. I also go through less diapers now that she is older. I would purchase 6-12 more diapers for the next one in this size because I have run short between washes if I am also planning a trip for a few days.
Before cloth I had blowouts weekly and most occurred either just after or just before going out. Since using cloth I have not had any blowouts on my baby; however, I have only changed a few diapers with BMs because I am also doing Infant Potty Training.
