I am a Minivan owner
Today is the day I look like a soccer mom. I don’t even have children that play soccer, but I have joined the club. I am now the owner of a Chevy Venture, 8 passenger, power everything minivan.
My husband and I started saving for a van several months ago and decided on the minivan for several reasons.
1) I HATE bending over to put my daughter in the car, 2) I want something higher (refer to 1) and I don’t want to drive a jeep or other 4 seater car that sits up off the ground, 3) I want power doors that open with a button, 4) I want power everything 5) We knew child 2 would be on the way soon (Late December2006), and I didn’t want to bend over to put 2 children into the car (hummmm I see a lot of “I”s in there.)
Until today we owned a Chevy Caviler that had only 2 special options, air and an MP3 player. And we only fixed the air last summer. If I wanted to roll down the windows I needed to turn the hand crank and this was a pain if you wanted the back windows down (note on when we got air.) If I wanted to unlock the back door, I needed to reach back and unlock it from the front, which could only happen effectively if I was already in the car. This meant if I wanted to unlock the back door to put my daughter into the car, I first needed to unlock the front door then bend over to reach back door and unlock the back door come back out of the car and then put her into the back seat. I also needed to remember to unlock the back door once we arrive at our destination or I would get to the back door and need to unlock the front to unlock the back.
Today, however, I am fancy free. I have power everything, dual power sliding doors, anti-lock breaks, traction control, and a beeper if I am about to run into something behind the car amongst other wonders I have never known.
I may need to start working out more now that I don’t have to do squats as frequently.

You are a bonafide mom now… Congrats on the plush new ride. I bet Belle loves it; no more smacking her head accidentally while trying to get a squirmy kid into the car.

Congrats. Last car I had without power locks was an 80s Escort. I kept smashing my head into the dome light when I lunged to lock the back doors. Power windows and locks should have been standard long ago.
