Adjustable waist pants for children
The skinny on adjustable waist pants. They look like normal pants, but have hidden, adjustable elastic like maternity pants; however, unlike maternity pants, they are made to fit skinny children, not growing bellies.
This type of pant is great for Skinny, no butt children like my daughter.
Gap, Old Navy, Gymboree, H&M, and now The Children’s Place have adjustable waists on most pants and even some skirts.
IHO, the quality of the Children’s place is better than Old Navy (for the most part), but about par with Gap on some things. The prices at The Children’s Place are slightly less than Old Navy for pants which makes them the best “bargin” if you must purchase this type of pant. Gap, H&M, and Gymboree are about the same for non- sale pricing; however, Gymboree clothing goes on sale often.
I have found End of season sales are the best at Old Navy, then The Children’s Place with Gymboree coming in 3rd, but I have found clearance items at Gap to be OK at times as well, but only if you happen to be in there at the right time. I define an OK deal to be an item of clothing under $5.00 dollars and an outstnading deal to be under $2.50.
H&M (HM.com) is the only brand I know of that carries adjustable waists starting at 0-3 months; however, they don’t sell their clothing on their online site. Their web site does not list what type of clothing is sold in each store, so you will need to call ahead to find a store in your “area” that has children’s clothing
I’m from Michigan so here is some info on H&M in Michigan. The only H&M store in Michigan right now that has baby’s clothing is at Lakeside Mall in Sterling Heights, MI. The phone number for this store is (586) 532-8847. You may want to call ahead to be sure they have the size you want, in the style you want, at the price you want. There is also a H&M store with baby clothing that will be opening in Dearborn in the spring, 2007 at Fairlane Town Center Mall.
I have read that Lee, Levi, Osh Kosh, some Carter’s also have the adjustable waist; however, they all start at 2T.
There’s always e-bay to try to find them in smaller sizes if needed and to find a better price.
